December 16, 2012

Greetings Jamboree Band,

As I interface with the various committees in the planning, I am very encouraged. The band is going to have the opportunity to make a great deal of music for a great many people. We’ll be a part of an arena show, play at a ceremony for Mr. Bechtel, entertain crowds at the Summit Center and much more. It is going to be fun, exciting ..... and busy!  We'll be working most days, but don’t worry, you’ll still have free time to experience the Jamboree.

As I have said, information would be coming to you in bits and pieces as the plans are developed and finalized.

Travel Plans

Please plan to arrive at the Jamboree on Thursday, July 11.

As of this writing, staff will be free to depart the Jamboree on either Thursday July 25 and Friday July 26.

There is some talk that some staff groups might be able to depart earlier, but nothing has been announced. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything. Consult the Jamboree Staff Guide for travel guidelines.

Music and Repertoire

In your acceptance letter, I asked you to obtain and learn several tunes. I am adding another.

National Emblem -  E.E. Bagley

Stars and Stripes Forever  - John Philip Sousa

Lassus Trombone - Henry FIllmore

Americans We - Henry Fillmore

These are the probably the most difficult tunes that we will do so I want you to have them well in advance. It is important that you arrive at the Jamboree with these tunes prepared and ready to perform.

If you have not already obtained your parts, you can get parts for the first three tunes at bandmusicpdf.org. They are free.

Select  "Search the Library" from the top right of the screen

In the box above "Search", type the composer and select "Search."

This will bring you a list of all the tunes by that composer.

Now, select the tune that you want and click on it.

A title page and all the parts will appear.

Scroll down to your part. Print it. Be careful to print only the page # that contains your part, otherwise, all parts will print.

Hit the reset button at the top of the page and start all over again for the other tunes.

Additional music will be supplied in the future.

And finally..........

If you have not done so lately, check out the Jamboree 2013 website. Try the blog at http://www.summitblog.org/.   More information is posted as the Jamboree approaches and the excitement grows.

You might also check out an actual Jamboree site satellite photo. Use a mapping site such as Google Earth, Bing Maps, etc. (Mapquest is out of date). Type in Mt. Hope, WV and scroll a little North and East. You'll see the Jamboree satellite photo taken about a year ago.

That is all for right now. I expect to be receiving lots more information that I will be passing on to you.

On behalf of myself and the rest of the staff, I hope that you have a Merry Christmas.
